Moving to Milwaukee: A Mover's Guide to the Neighborhoods

Where to live in Milwaukee, from the crews who move people in and out of every neighborhood — East Side, Bay View, Third Ward, Tosa, Shorewood, and beyond.

Real estate sites will tell you about median prices. We’ll tell you what we actually see moving families in and out of these neighborhoods every week — who’s moving where, and what moving day looks like when you get there.

East Side & Lower East Side

Young professionals and UWM students, walkable streets, and a big rental market that turns over every summer. Most buildings are vintage walk-ups — charming, and also the reason you want movers who handle stairs daily. If your lease starts June 1st like half the East Side, book your crew weeks ahead.

Bay View

Milwaukee’s favorite “first house” neighborhood — couples graduating from East Side apartments into bungalows near Kinnickinnic Avenue. Bay View moves are usually full-household jobs: basement, garage, and all. Great coffee for your moving-day crew, which we appreciate.

Historic Third Ward & Walker’s Point

Condos and lofts in converted warehouses. Freight elevators, loading docks, and building rules mean these moves reward planning — we coordinate elevator reservations and COIs with building management ahead of time, same as our commercial moves.

Wauwatosa

The classic next step for growing families: tree-lined streets, the Village, and 1920s homes with real plaster and real staircases. We move so many people to Tosa that it has its own page.

Shorewood & Whitefish Bay

North Shore staples. Shorewood mixes duplexes and lakefront condos (details here); Whitefish Bay is family homes with decades of attic storage (and here). Both are short hops from the East Side — a very common move for us.

Brookfield & the Waukesha County suburbs

Bigger homes, bigger moves, and usually a cross-county trip. Four-bedroom Brookfield jobs are why we scale crews up instead of stretching a two-person team over a twelve-hour day. See Brookfield and Waukesha County.

Coming from out of state?

Milwaukee keeps landing on “most affordable big city” lists, and we feel it in the calendar — a steady stream of long-distance moves arriving from Chicago, the coasts, and everywhere between. If that’s you: welcome. The summers earn the winters.
