Moving FAQ

Everything Milwaukee asks before moving day. Service-specific questions live on each service page — local, long distance, commercial, packing, labor only, and specialty.

How much does it cost to hire movers in Milwaukee?

Most local moves are billed hourly based on crew size, with the rate quoted up front before we book anything. The total depends on how much you're moving, stairs and elevators, and drive time between addresses. Request a quote and we'll give you a transparent estimate — no hidden fees and no padded hours.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Monkey Movers is a fully licensed and insured moving company, and every crew member is background-checked and trained in safe lifting, padding, and packing techniques. Your belongings are protected from the first box to the last.

How far in advance should I book my move?

One to two weeks of notice is ideal for most local moves, and more for end-of-month or summer weekend dates, which fill up fastest. That said, we regularly accommodate short-notice and same-day moves — call us and we'll do our best to fit you in.

Do you provide boxes and packing materials?

Yes. We can supply boxes, tape, paper, bubble wrap, and wardrobe boxes, either as part of a full packing service or delivered ahead of your move if you prefer to pack yourself.

Do you move items up or down stairs?

Absolutely — stairs, tight landings, and walk-ups are everyday work for our crews. Let us know about staircases, elevators, or long carries when you request your quote so we can plan the right crew size and equipment.

What areas do you serve?

We're based in Milwaukee and serve Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Racine, and Kenosha counties for local moves, plus long-distance moves anywhere in the lower 48 states.

Can you move just one large item, like a couch or piano?

Yes. Single-item and small moves are welcome — couches, appliances, dressers, and specialty items like pianos and safes. It's often faster and cheaper than you'd expect.

What won't you move?

For safety and legal reasons we can't transport hazardous materials (propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinners), perishable food, plants over long distances, or irreplaceable items like cash and important documents — we recommend keeping those with you.

Do I need to empty my dresser drawers?

For local moves, light soft items like clothing can usually stay in sturdy dressers. We'll ask you to empty anything fragile, heavy, or valuable. For long-distance moves, we recommend emptying all furniture.

How do you protect furniture and floors?

Every piece of furniture gets padded moving blankets and stretch wrap as needed, and we protect doorways, banisters, and floors in high-traffic paths. Mattresses travel in covers, and TVs and artwork get appropriate boxes or padding.

Do you offer weekend or evening moves?

Yes — we're available seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, and we build the schedule around you, not the other way around. Weekend dates book up first, so reserve early when you can.

How do I get a quote?

Fill out our quote form or call (414) 369-2754 with your move date, both addresses, and a rough list of what's moving. Most quotes go out the same business day.

Still have a question?
